Sion Jenkins
Senior Technician, Cardiff. Solar Panel Bird Proofing Specialist
Sion is our senior technician for Cardiff and the surrounding areas, and the company's specialist in solar panel bird proofing and bird control. An Army veteran with 20 years of service, he has spent 12 years in professional pest control.
About Sion Jenkins
Sion covers Cardiff and the surrounding areas for Pest & Property Solutions, and leads our solar panel bird proofing work across South Wales. If pigeons have moved in under your solar panels, Sion is the person who will get them out and keep them out: he installs the JAWS solar panel bird exclusion system, a mesh proofing solution fitted without drilling or damaging the panels.
Before pest control, Sion served 20 years in the British Army. Twelve years on the tools since then have made him one of the most experienced bird proofing specialists in the region, equally at home on a rooftop fitting proofing as he is handling the day-to-day pest issues Cardiff produces: rats, mice, wasps and insect infestations.
Working at height is where Sion spends much of his week, on rooftops across Cardiff and beyond, installing bird spikes, netting and solar panel proofing on homes, blocks of flats and commercial buildings.
Away from work, Sion is a keen fisherman, and he holds a title few can match: Welsh Bog Snorkelling champion. We are still deciding which of those skills helps most on a rooftop.

First-Hand Experience
From Sion Jenkins's Daily Work
Practical, real-world insights from the field. The following sections are written to be personalised by Sion Jenkins with real examples.
Common issues I help customers with
The biggest one by far is pigeons under solar panels. The gap under a panel is warm, sheltered and safe from predators, so once one pair moves in, the colony grows fast. I am called to homes across Cardiff and South Wales where the noise, the mess and the damage have become unbearable. Alongside that, I handle general bird proofing on roofs and commercial buildings, plus the usual run of rats, mice and wasp nests.
What I look for during an inspection
On a solar panel job, I check how established the birds are, whether there are active nests, the condition of the panels and cabling (pigeons peck at cable insulation), and how much fouling has built up. Guano is acidic and carries disease, so the clean-up matters as much as the proofing. On general bird work, I look at ledges, roof valleys, dormers and plant equipment, anywhere birds can perch or nest.
My advice for homeowners
If you hear cooing or scratching under your solar panels, act quickly. Early on, it is a straightforward proofing job. Leave it a season and you are looking at established nests, damaged cabling, a big clean-up and reduced panel performance. And do not let anyone drill into your panels to fit proofing: the JAWS system we install clips on without drilling, so your panel warranty stays intact.
My advice for landlords and property managers
Bird problems on blocks of flats and commercial buildings only ever get worse on their own. Fouling on walkways is a health and slip hazard, and you have legal duties around it. Budget for proofing once, properly, rather than paying for repeat cleaning. A survey costs nothing and tells you exactly what you are dealing with.
